What's the "Function" of behavior.

n this video, we take a closer look at the function of behavior—what behavior is accomplishing for the individual.

Most behavior in home and community settings serves a purpose. It may be maintained by attention, access to preferred items, escape from demands, or internal regulation. When caregivers understand the function of behavior, responses become more predictable and effective.

Rather than focusing only on stopping behavior, this framework helps shift the focus toward teaching replacement skills and adjusting interaction patterns in thoughtful, structured ways.

Understanding function is a core component of caregiver-mediated behavior support. It allows families to move from reacting in the moment to responding with intention and clarity.

Family Centered Behavior Consulting provides caregiver-mediated behavior support led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Services focus on functional behavior assessment, structured parent training, and practical strategy development in home and community settings.
