    What's the "Function" of behavior.

    In this video, we explore the function of behavior—what behavior is accomplishing for the individual. Most behavior serves a purpose, whether it is gaining attention, accessing something preferred, escaping demands, or supporting regulation. When caregivers understand function, responses become more intentional and effective. Identifying the “why” behind behavior is a key step toward teaching meaningful replacement skills.

    Why Behavior Happens: A Simple Framework for Families

    When behavior feels overwhelming at home, it’s easy to assume something is “wrong.” In this video, we introduce a simple framework—the ABC pattern (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence)—to help families understand why behavior occurs. By shifting the focus from “How do we stop this?” to “What is this behavior accomplishing?”, caregivers can begin responding with greater clarity and structure. Understanding behavior is the first step toward meaningful change.
